Northern Indiana Atheists (NIA) and three families with standing are making a formal complaint about multiple state/church violations with the Freedom From Religion Foundation about a public school teacher at Jimtown High School in Elkhart, Indiana.

NIA sent a letter to the City of Bloomington's Utilities Department and to the mayor of the City of Bloomington outlining state/church violations and requesting the removal of these violations.

Northern Indiana Atheists was proud to stand side-by-side with Michiana Five for the Homeless at their protests demanding change, raising awareness, and rallying the community.

Elkhart City Police Officer and School Resource Officer, Cody Skipper, was observed in his full police uniform leading the prayer with the students.

NIA calmly offered cold water and snacks to anyone who was thirsty or hungry, a true help for the real stress each individual faces while entering an appellate court on a Friday morning.

Our day started in Goshen, Indiana, on the Elkhart County Courthouse lawn with over 600 of our more compassionate community members and ended in South Bend, Indiana with over 600 more!

Despite the scorching 90 degree temperatures, the reception we received from the public was wonderful, and many people told us they were glad to see an atheist group in the community. Several said they’ve always wished there was a group like ours, and some shared problems they’ve faced in the community.

Northern Indiana Atheists and the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) puts School City of Mishawaka on notice regarding an unconstitutional religious lesson that took place at Liberty Elementary School.

This year, the city council decided to stop funding the center and sell it to Lifeline Youth Ministries, a religious organization. Lifeline’s mission is to “share God’s love by providing inner city youth with caring role models, teaching basic life skills, developing student leaders, and connecting students to local churches.”

Northern Indiana Atheists is joined by a broad coalition that includes businesses, churches, education leaders, non-profits, Latino community leaders, and scores of community members to form a Coalition Against the Elkhart County Immigration Detention Center to stop plans for the proposed for-profit prison.
