For generations, Americans have been indoctrinated into believing that we enjoy only freedom of religion; that is, we are free to choose which religion we care to profess as long as we choose one. We are presented with a bewildering array of belief systems and told, in effect, to "pick a card, any card," but we may not decline to play the game. American Atheists takes the position that you have the right to say "none of the above" when faced with the ever-growing list of sects in our denomination-glutted religious system. You have the right to question and challenge the claims of religious leaders and organizations. You have the right to investigate and reject the tenets of religious belief. We also think that it is your right to be free from the burden of financially supporting religion in general, and any sect in particular.

Finally, you have the right to hear the Atheist viewpoint when religious opinions are voiced in the public square.

We strive to bring about a progressive society where being good without a god is an accepted and respected way to live life. We are accomplishing this through our defense of civil liberties and secular governance, by our outreach to the growing number of people without traditional religious faith, and through a continued refinement and advancement of the humanist worldview.

Humanism encompasses a variety of nontheistic views (atheism, agnosticism, rationalism, naturalism, secularism, and so forth) while adding the important element of a comprehensive worldview and set of ethical values – values that are grounded in the philosophy of the Enlightenment, informed by scientific knowledge, and driven by a desire to meet the needs of people in the here and now.

We count humanists and other nontheists as the core of our movement but are always willing to work with friends and allies on issues of common concern. The positions we hold and the actions we take are not simply for our own benefit, but for the betterment of all of society and the world in which we live.

When Whole Woman’s Health of South Bend was operating in South Bend, NIA was honored to support our clinic with escort staff, fundraising and overall support wherever they needed it. We will be there supporting again when they open back up.

The Delta Dental Foundation is a nonprofit, charitable organization established in 1980, which serves as the philanthropic arm of Delta Dental of Indiana. The DDF is dedicated to developing and enhancing partnerships and programs to improve health equity in oral and overall health and supplies NIA with toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, and informational material.

FOOD NOT BOMBS SOUTH BEND

Food not Bombs is a community activist group based around mutual aid to assist food insecure people of South Bend, IN. FnB aims to work with the community to best feed those affected by homelessness, natural disaster, and those in food deserts.

MILFORD FOOD BANK

We are a Food Bank serving food pantries throughout northern Indiana. We collect and/or purchase food in bulk and redistribute it to local food pantries. Our mission is simply to provide food to those in our community that are food insecure through partnerships with food pantries in their local communities.

CULTIVATE FOOD RESCUE

As a 501c3 not-for-profit organization, Cultivate is devoted to ending the cycle of hunger in the local communities of northern Indiana by providing a food rescue service.

“No neighbor hungry, no food wasted.” This is the vision at Cultivate Food Rescue. We work to reduce hunger and food waste in northern Indiana by recovering excess, quality food and redistributing it to school children, food pantries, shelters, and more. Through strategic partnerships, we are a leader in perishable food rescue, procurement, redistribution, and education in order to meet the nutritional needs of communities.

With our roots in culinary training, we know very well how food changes lives. After opening our doors in 2016, we quickly realized that we would have a lasting impact by doing our best to alleviate hunger in our community. Even further, we could do this by simply redistributing food that was ALREADY IN our community.
